We had a visit in our showroom last Autumn with the lovely Sandi & Simon. We discussed several projects with them mainly they wanted a sofa with matching sofa bed for their holiday let overlooking the beautiful harbour of Ilfracombe in Devon, but they needed to fit a specific space replacing two leather sofas.
Sandi and Simon wanted a robust fabric that would stand the test of time.
Choosing fabric is not just a practical decision—it is a deeply personal one. Every fabric has its own personality, and finding the right one often requires you to connect with it. It is about more than just selecting something that looks good; you want to find something that feels right. As you sift through the endless options, you start to ask yourself questions: What texture would feel best against the skin? What colour would bring the room or space to life? Does this fabric speak to the kind of style and atmosphere I want to create?
Sharon knew they had a matching pair of sofa and sofa bed and after checking the sizes we were all set to chose fabrics, the sofas were upholstered in a perfectly good order, but a bit dated with skirts.
It was decided to not have skirts and replace the feet with new wooden bun feet with protective rubber sliders for ease of movement. Sandi and Simon settled on a Cristina Marrone fabric – Toro in colourway Forest, this fabric is wipe clean, soft to touch, M.R.S.A infection resistant, bleach cleanable, and has 750,000+ abrasion rating. Robbie and Sharon were hoping for good weather as Sandi and Simon had kindly let them stay overnight whilst they delivered the new sofas and collected the old.
On arrival at this beautiful location access for a long wheelbase van was a little tricky but after a bit of planning they had a plan of action. The building the apartment is in has been converted but luckily for us it was on the ground floor with very high ceilings and wide doorways all good for manoeuvring furniture, the weather was glorious, access was clear, and we were good to go.
Robbie is an expert when it comes to wrapping and taking care of furniture so that its easier to handle on delivery, the sofa bed mechanism was wrapped separately for ease and within the hour the new sofas were in and the old on the van ready to be transported back to the workshop.
Mission completed 😊
Sandi & Simons apartment is located in Ilfracombe overlooking the harbour, there are independent shops and a range of restaurants, cafes and pubs, you can even catch a glimpse of Verity, the iconic statue by Damien Hirst who in our opinion is definitely worth a visit.
